Cadillac 4.9L SFI Tuning?

i know, Cadillacs are not the usual cars/engines for tuning

but i just had a interesting thought: I serviced a buddys 92 Cadillac STS with 4.9L engine, and saw that this engine management is nearly similar to what we have in our classic TPI systems. But the Cadillac is SFI and the only difference i could see, was that it has a distributor with Cam-signal-output.

So it would be a cool thing to control a TPI system with a PCM from such a Cadillac, and build a SF-TPI

but it must be programmable. i don't think a 4.9L calibration would work on a 350HO engine. and of course, the VATS must be disabled.

What do you think guys? is there a chance to get a definition for tunercat for those early Cadillac PCMs?

Yes, you can configure it,any way you want. Keep in mind the sfi is only sequential to around 2500 rpm. After that it switches to batch fire.

It applies to all the older systems from the 80's thru the 90's. I don't know if the new displacement on demand engines are configured the same way. I delieve the low speed SFI was more for emmissions than anything else. Other than the marketing aspects. If you calculate how fast a cylinder fires,at a given rpm, I don't think earlier computers could control the injectors individually.

I'll add that the 4.9 (along with the OBD2 L67) is one of the more popular swaps into Fieros. Several people have tried using Chevy TPI ECMs, but it's proven to not be the best option.

If 4.9 definition files are made available, I suspect that quite a few Fiero people will be beating a path to your door.
Support for the 4T60, 4T60E, and manual tranny (we're using those, too) applications would be quite useful, and welcomed.

Head's up!
TunerCat now offers 4 different definition files for the 4.9 Caddy motors. Check out his page.
