New With Question about Replacement PCM

I recently purchased the TC software for OBDI (for my 95 Corvette). I have a problem with my current PCM and the factory manual says its time to replace the PCM. I was told on another forum that I could do the initial programming of the replacement PCM with TC if I had the BIN file. I was able to get the original BIN file from the old PCM this morning, but when i tried to program new PCM I get an error saying "unrecognized response" or something to that effect. Then it aborts programming.

My question is should I be able to program the new replacement PCM with tunercat or does the dealer have to do this?

Are the old and new PCM part numbers the same, could be a software difference in the base codes. Process should be pretty simple assuming you have the correct definition file. Read the old PCM and save the .bin. Install the new PCM and write the old .bin into it. Can you provide the part numbers of both PCM's, also what is your engine type, I'm not that familiar with the vetts. Just for my info, why did the dealer say you need a new PCM, what were your symptoms.. ??

Thanks for the reply. The part numbers do match from one unit to the other, but I don't have them with me. I am using the correct BIN file and definition file.

The dealer didn't say I needed a new PCM. I followed the trouble shooting charts in my factory manual and ended up at the step that said "Replace PCM".

I emailed TC tech support over the weekend and they replied on Monday. Here is their response:

If the PCM is new and never been programmed then you'll probably have to have the dealer program it the first time. Then you should be able to read and program the PCM without any problem.

I can't imagine it "blank", but the Y Body PCM I think is a BCM/PCM combo unit. That might be part of it.

Where are you located? I will be down in Palm Bay the week after Thanksgiving for a couple days and then heading up I75 back to Chicagoland.

I tried reading the new PCM and get the same communication error.

The corvette does have the BCM. When the new PCM is installed, the dash flashes the SYS error.

I'm located about an hour west of Tallahassee.
