06 5.3L swap into 66 chevelle, won't rev

okay, helping a guy with a 2006 model 5.3 engine swap into 66 chevelle.

programmed his pcm to remove vats etc, emissions etc

engine starts, but it will not rev up past 1800 or so. It acts like a really low rev limiter. It is very smooth, no poping or cracking or missing.

Throttle can be held to the floor and it limits the rpm at 1800. The throttle blade does stay open, (this is electric throttle)

Tech 2 shows timing staying stable, and injector PW goes from 2.60 at idle up to 10 at WOT, even though the engine is acting like its limiting at 1800.

Any ideas anyone?

it has three dtc's set, all Type C DTC's, no mil light.

P1689 Delivered Torque Circuit and
P0654 Engine Speed Output circuit
P0856 Traction Control Torque Request

any of these effect anything like this?

Can anyone clearify what the Check box does on the diagnostics in TC OBD2 Tuner?
I would have thought if it was Unchecked it would not perform that, but I guess not, also have to set to No Error Reporting Type X

You need to address these codes to right the problem. The PCM thinks there is a traction issue or can no longer accurately monitor engine speed and is limiting the engine speed to keep you safe. If you are using non-stock trans or have wiring/ sensor issues (cam/crank) you may have to turn these off or repair your signals. Gotta love that electronic throttle!

The check box prevents the MIL from coming on, you still have to set it as "No Error Reporting" to shut the diagnostic off.

I set an item to no error reporting in my 1997 with TunerCATS and I kept getting a MIL light. This was for EGR. Could never get it turned off. Finally got it figured out with another 97 file I borrowed from someone else (Thanks Paul S. aka. HOG)

the engine speed output circuit is the signal the PCM generates and sends to the ABS module, the PCM is detecting the circuit is not hooked up, this is an OUTPUT of the pcm, not an input. Service information says this fault, along with delivered torque circuit problems would result in inoperative Traction Control System.

This 5.3 has a 700R4 behind it, so no electronic trans.

attached is a read from the PCM after programming.

The output circuit is most likely monitored by the PCM for a load. When it is not hooked up it may see it as an open circuit and flag the code. That signal is used by some peripherals to monitor vehicle speed. Just set the three codes to No Error Reporting Type-X and you should be fine. Have you tried that? Does it work? After that you can get to work on some tuning!

Abuse Mode

Under the constants menu there is a system parameters tab. Open this up and scroll down and you will see some RPM settings for ABUSE MODE. The settings in the file you posted show abuse mode enable RPM at 1600 and disable RPM at 1000. Try resetting these to what you would like the top engine speed rev limiter set at.

The PCM might be entering "abuse mode" because it isn't seeing proper signals from the transmission or the ABS system and thinks there is a serious problem. My suggestion to you is to spend some time on this cal going thru and disabling anything that has to do with torque management, abuse mode, or traction control for this project.

Let us know.

I see the Abuse Mode Test Enable..., Test Disable, etc

What does TEST mean? why is the PCM stuck in a test mode if thats how I understand it?

This PCM is a few hundred miles a way..just trying to figure it out for sure this time.

Thanks to all with ideas, Its what makes this site .... what it is.
