Reading VCM

Hi guys, my 1st. attempt at reading stock calibration files. My laptop says " new hardware found, cannot find software". Tried going direct to Jet Flash and enabled comm port 3, now getting "hardware connection failed". I am thinking the problem is the laptop not connecting with the hardware rather than a hardware problem? Any help out there?

Sounds like a hardware problem. Your laptop should not detect the jet hardware. It sounds like your laptop is having trouble with whatever usb serial converter you are trying to use.

So, what are you using for a serial port?

Serial port

Thanks for getting back, I am using a 9 pin to USB connection to the laptop. I will get and try a f/m coupler to access the male 9 pin in the laptop. I am s/c 4.3 as well, may need some tips if you have the time! Les.

I have had good success with this unit: Compare SIIG (JJ-PCM012-S2) (JJPCM012S2) Serial Adapter Prices - Shop for Serial Adapters at mySimon
(never delt with the company, i just googled the one i have)

This one also seems to work well. I have better luck with the other one for programing though: Keyspan | USB High Speed Serial Adapter

Serial port

OK, so we can use the USB connection it is just the proper adapter that is required? It would be nice if Jet would make that known! Thanks for the link, I will look for a product locally.

Yes, you need a certain style adapter. Moates.net sells the right type I believe. Yes it sucks JET won't help you with this stuff. Email tc@tunercat.com or just post it here and get support from users as is typical.

re

I've got a couple I bought from best buy by a company called Dynex I believe.
I never had a problem with them as long as they were plugged in when I started the computer. That made a big difference whether it was plugged in before or after I started it up.If I plugged it in after I would have to restart or go into the port properties of the computer and change something.
My new laptop has a serial port so I no longer use them,if your interested I'll send you one for $20 you pay shipping.
I paid 40$ each I believe and one is brand new,I thought one was bad so I bought another and it turned out to be User Error.!

usb info

The usb ports are not all the same. If you installed the hardware on one port it will say you have new hardware when plugging into a different port. Try it in another port and it may be okay. Also, not all usb ports on a PC are the same. Sometimes hardware needs to be on the primary usb controller. I think it is a hardware layer problem.
