100% TCC D.C. at Full Lock ???

I was looking at some of the options under Switches -> Calibration Options. On a 1998 Chevy 1500 w/ a 5.7 Vortec.

Anyway I was wondering what exactly "100% TCC D.C. at Full Lock [X = Enabled]" did and if it would be benifical to enable it? It is unchecked in my file. I would think that when driving hills and towing you would wany your Torque Converter Clutch to be fully engaged but what do I know.

Thankx

Conrad

I have not played with it but It might dis-able PWM lock-up to full on/off lock-up...which would be great!

OK, went and did a little searching and found out what PWM means. For those of you who are still curious it is "Pulse Width Modulated" it means in this instance that the clutch is applied at less than full pressure under certain conditions allowing for a certain amount of clutch slip.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

You are very near correct. Since 96 in the 4L60E Gm(and all other manufactures on other dates) have 'P'ulsed the clutch on to apply at differeing rates and intensities. The main reason was customer complainants of to firm a lock-up and or Burnt up converters tring to make them softer.

This brought a whole new era of converter technoligy and failures as well. Along the way Manufactures also figured out by using this they could apply TCC very early in second gear and get the MPG ratings up even higher as a bonus. With the EPA cracking the whip at every corner they will take any thing they can get.

The biggest problem in the after math was the code P1870. Generic for Transmission slipping or component failure. ONLY tested in Lock-up 99% of the time you find this code you will find a problem in the TCC system. From worn out Vavle body and Pump bores to burnt up conveters the after math is many times expensive.

Durring the early LT1 Edit days I begged for more tables and got a few only to never have them released due to no demand.

This is the Singal biggest area I would like to explore and could REALLY make my customers and I happy with.

For now I have had to mechanicly lock the PWM out. It fixes the problem but leaves a very firm lock-up some do not like.

Then again Frying a $1,000 Yank on a N2O Dyno pass is not much fun either

Sorry for not explaining "PWM" before. I just figured you knew

when i put my converter in, i was told to remove the check ball in the end of the shaft, before installing converter. this really helped the lockup to be firm. nearly feels like another gear.
